A meeting of the Temporary Special Commission on Defense and Anti-Corruption has begun in Kyiv

A meeting of the Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission, which addresses issues of defense, anti-corruption policy, and human rights compliance during martial law, has begun in Kyiv. The meeting is taking place at the Kyiv City State Administration building on Khreshchatyk Street. Leaders of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), as well as representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the civil society sector, have been invited to attend. 

 

On Tuesday, May 13, a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission began at the Kyiv City State Administration building. The commission is investigating possible violations in the areas of defense, compliance with anti-corruption legislation, and human rights and freedoms under martial law. The meeting is taking place at the Kyiv City State Administration building at 36 Khreshchatyk Street. It begins at 4:00 p.m.

Several high-ranking officials and public figures involved in anti-corruption efforts, defense procurement, and public administration have been invited to the meeting. Among those invited are:

  • NABU Director Semen Kryvonos;
  • Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) Oleksandr Klymenko;
  • Arsen Zhumadilov, Director of the Defense Procurement Agency at the Ministry of Defense;
  • Olena Duma, former head of ARMA;
  • Former Deputy Minister of Defense Mykola Shevtsov;
  • Civil society activist Maria Berlinska.

 

It is expected that the meeting will address the work of anti-corruption agencies, defense procurement, and issues related to the oversight of state resources during wartime. The meeting is currently underway. Journalists and media representatives are present in the hall.

At a session of the Verkhovna Rada’s TSC on corruption during martial law, MP Volodymyr Ariev raised questions about a potential conflict of interest involving Bohdan Korolchuk, deputy head of the State Financial Monitoring Service.

The latest meeting of the Temporary Investigative Commission (TIC), dedicated to examining allegations of pressure and corruption within the Public Integrity Council (PIC), turned into an open scandal. Mykhailo Zhernakov, head of the DEJURE Foundation, who was invited to testify, pointedly refused to cooperate with the elected representatives.

The TSC meeting, to which Mykhailo Zhernakov was invited on Tuesday, December 9, had a specific goal: to investigate public allegations of corruption and abuse of influence leveled against him by his own colleagues in the civil society sector and former members of the Public Integrity Council (PIC).

The Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission on Economic Security decided to invite Serhiy Deyneka, head of the State Border Guard Service, or a representative of the agency to the meeting. They want to obtain clarification from them regarding the departure from Ukraine of Timur Mindich and Oleksandr Tsukerman.
