Zelenskyy discussed gas supplies with the President of Mozambique
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with Mozambican President Daniel Shapu to coordinate efforts in the fields of energy and security.
The main topics of the discussion were the prospects for supplying Mozambican gas to Ukraine and the transfer of Ukrainian expertise in combating terrorist threats.
The Ukrainian side expressed deep interest in securing additional energy resources amid global instability in the fuel market.
Mozambique, for its part, seeks access to Ukrainian military technologies and expertise to strengthen its own internal security.
The leaders also devoted significant attention to the digitalization of public services and strengthening global food security, where Ukraine remains a key player.
Following the conversation, Zelenskyy emphasized that specialized teams from both countries have already begun working together on specific projects.
The intensification of negotiations with African countries is taking place against the backdrop of a critical situation in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.
Supplies from the Persian Gulf have effectively halted due to the escalation of armed conflict and massive strikes on the region’s energy infrastructure.
Global LNG exports were threatened after Qatar was forced to halt shipments due to the blockade of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Over the next ten days, the last tankers that managed to set sail before the hostilities began will arrive at global ports.
The situation was catastrophically exacerbated by Iranian missile attacks on one of the world’s largest gas complexes—Ras Laffan.
The destruction at this facility caused disruptions in production and triggered a panic-driven surge in natural gas prices across Europe and Asia.
As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved a plan for new military operations against Russia.
Zelenskyy also announced that intelligence agencies are monitoring a new Russian messaging app.
