Zelensky signed a law establishing criminal liability for anti-Semitism

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law establishing criminal liability for acts of antisemitism.

The law provides for fines and imprisonment for up to 8 years.

This was reported with reference to the parliament’s website.

"The draft law was developed to bring the provisions of the Criminal Code of Ukraine into line with the provisions of the bill 'On Preventing and Countering Antisemitism in Ukraine,' which legislatively regulates issues related to countering and preventing antisemitism and its manifestations in Ukraine," the explanatory note states.

Thus, the draft law amends Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

It provides for criminal liability for manifestations of anti-Semitism in the form of a fine ranging from 200 to 500 non-taxable minimum incomes, or restriction of liberty for a term of up to five years, or imprisonment for a term of up to three years, with or without the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years.

At the same time, the same acts, when combined with violence, deception, or threats, as well as when committed by a public official, shall be punishable by a fine ranging from 500 to 1,000 non-taxable minimum incomes, or imprisonment for a term of two to five years, with or without the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years.

For actions committed by an organized group of persons or if they resulted in serious consequences, the guilty parties face imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
