Zelensky Meets King Felipe VI of Spain
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with King Felipe VI of Spain at the royal residence of Zarzuela. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation and support for Ukraine
.“I met with King Felipe VI of Spain at the Zarzuela Royal Residence. We appreciate Spain’s help for our people forced to leave their homes due to the war,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

According to the Ukrainian President’s website, Spain has provided refuge to 240,000 Ukrainians displaced by the conflict.

Zelensky thanked His Majesty and the Spanish people for their unwavering support of Ukraine throughout years of Russian aggression. He also highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts to achieve a just peace and stressed that Ukraine is doing everything possible to end the war as soon as possible.

For context, King Felipe VI previously acknowledged abuses during the colonial era but did not issue an apology. In Spain, opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo called for former King Juan Carlos to return from voluntary exile following the release of declassified documents related to the attempted 1981 coup.
Spanish authorities have decided to declassify additional documents concerning the coup and Juan Carlos I’s role.
