Zelenskyy hopes to reset and strengthen relations with Hungary
Ukraine seeks to build strong and mutually beneficial ties with Budapest following the change of government in that country.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during an online conversation with journalists, according to Glavkom. The head of state emphasized that dialogue with the new head of the Hungarian government is merely a matter of time and technical preparation by diplomats, who must determine the format for a future meeting.
Zelenskyy congratulated Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, on his victory in the parliamentary elections, expressing public support for the Hungarian people. Until recently, relations between Kyiv and Budapest remained tense due to the position of Viktor Orbán’s previous government regarding sanctions against Russia and aid to Ukraine. The new direction of cooperation should be based on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect between the two nations to ensure stability in the region.
The President is confident that the joint efforts of diplomats will allow for the establishment of an appropriate framework for coexistence and the resolution of previous differences. Ukraine is ready to do everything necessary to strengthen a partnership that will benefit both countries. Further steps will depend on the completion of the formation of the new government in Hungary and official high-level contacts.
Recently, the future head of the Hungarian government and leader of the Tisza Party, Péter Magyar, held telephone talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
