President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree establishing a new honorary award, the “Community Savior,” which will be awarded to local communities for their contributions to supporting the population and the Defense Forces during the war.
The head of state signed the corresponding decree No. 491/2026 on June 11.
According to the document, the award will be granted to communities whose residents have demonstrated courage, solidarity, and humanitarian support in repelling Russian aggression, assist residents of frontline territories, support Ukrainian military personnel, and contribute to strengthening the state’s defense capabilities.
Nominations for the honorary award may be submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers, regional and Kyiv city state or military administrations. A single community may not be awarded the honor more than once.
Awarded communities will receive a special statuette, a commemorative plaque, and a case. The award may be presented by the President of Ukraine or officials authorized by him.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded state honors to 362 military personnel, 176 of them posthumously. The awards were granted for courage, dedication, and the defense of the country’s sovereignty. Among the honors are orders, medals, and the “Cross of Military Merit.”
