A new magnetic storm could hit Earth due to a powerful solar flare

A coronal mass ejection has been detected on the Sun, which could potentially trigger a new magnetic storm on Earth. Scientists are currently analyzing its parameters to determine its exact direction of travel and possible impact on our planet.

According to experts, if the stream of charged particles reaches Earth, it could lead to geomagnetic disturbances of varying intensity.

At this time, the solar wind speed is within normal limits, and the geomagnetic situation remains stable and calm.

Scientists predict that no significant magnetic storms are expected on June 12 and 13, though short-term G1-level disturbances—classified as weak magnetic storms—are possible.

American researchers are working on an innovative project called “StormWall, which could help protect Earth from powerful solar eruptions.

The idea involves placing six special satellites in orbit, equipped with supplies of materials to create a plasma cloud. In the event of a solar storm threat, the satellites will form an additional protective barrier that will strengthen the Earth’s magnetosphere and reduce the impact of solar energy.

According to computer simulations, StormWall is capable of reducing the intensity of geomagnetic storms by more than 50%.

At the same time, scientists note that a single use of the system will require a significant amount of materials, and the protective mechanism itself will be disposable.

Despite this, researchers believe the technology can be implemented based on existing space technology. In the future, such a system could simultaneously protect the entire planet from the effects of powerful solar storms.

Currently, scientists are continuing to monitor the coronal mass ejection to assess its potential threat to Earth and refine the forecast for geomagnetic activity in the coming days.

The last days of spring have been relatively calm in terms of solar activity, but the situation may change at the start of summer. Experts note the appearance of a new coronal hole, which has already turned toward Earth. This could lead to an intensification of the solar wind and magnetic field fluctuations in the coming days, so space weather is being monitored particularly closely right now.
