Zheleznyak explained why the decriminalization of pornography is necessary
On June 23, Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that the main goal of decriminalizing pornography is not to collect taxes from the industry, but to reduce the risk of corruption. According to him, any potential revenue for the budget is merely an added benefit.
This was stated by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
“This isn’t about taxes; it’s more about fighting corruption. Tax revenue is, rather, a pleasant bonus,” the lawmaker explained, justifying the need to decriminalize adult content.
Zheleznyak attributes the fight against police abuses in this area to the political influence of concerned lawmakers.
“Right now, all these people in uniform know that, God forbid, if we—politicians who care—find out what they’re up to, they’ll face political consequences to start with.
After the Ministry of Internal Affairs leadership intervened, they scaled back their activities in this regard, but it’s clear that this could happen again in the future. As long as we’re here, we’re putting the brakes on this process politically. But that’s just a stopgap; it simply needs to be decriminalized. Because as soon as they have the opportunity to use this again, they will,” the MP explained.
Zheleznyak notes that the law cannot influence moral considerations, but it clearly establishes the principle of freedom of action when it comes to an adult who, of their own free will, disposes of their own body or its image.
“We can continue to publicly condemn it and say that it’s immoral. Everything else comes down to upbringing and relationships. I submitted this bill while I was at the maternity hospital, where my son was being born. I hope I’m a good family man and a good father. But if there are children who have grown up and decided to enter this industry, the last thing I’d want is for some scum in uniform to either extort money from them, or do something worse, or send them to prison. “I don’t see anything feminist or divine in this at all,” he concluded, according to a report by Censor.NET.
Earlier, a new bill on the decriminalization of pornography was submitted to the Rada.
The Verkhovna Rada also did not support an initiative to change the rules regarding liability for pornography. Bill No. 12191 provided for the abolition of criminal liability for the creation and distribution of content involving adults, but it did not receive the necessary number of votes.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved in principle Bill No. 15094 on basic social assistance, which provides for the creation of a new mechanism of state support for low-income citizens. The bill was passed by 235 members of parliament.
