United Kingdom Prepares Troops and Establishes 70-Person Headquarters for Ukraine

The UK government announced a major expansion of support for Ukraine, strengthening not only the country’s defense capabilities but also laying the groundwork for long-term security.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed the operation of a special 70-person headquarters coordinating the work of the so-called “Coalition of the Willing.”

A central element of the new strategy is preparing British armed forces for potential deployment of multinational peacekeeping forces in the future. London has allocated £200 million to ensure troop readiness, aimed at modernizing equipment, communications systems, and counter-drone defenses.

“We are increasing investment in our training, ensuring that the British Armed Forces are ready to lead Multinational Forces for Ukraine, because a secure Ukraine is a secure UK,” said Ben Wallace.

The new aid package covers key civilian and military priorities:

  • £20 million — urgent restoration and reinforcement of Ukrainian energy facilities;

  • £5.7 million — humanitarian supplies and support for frontline communities;

  • £30 million — strengthening societal resilience and detailed documentation of the aggressor’s war crimes.

Special attention is being given to training programs. British military surgeons are mentoring their Ukrainian counterparts, sharing expertise in treating complex combat injuries. Additionally, Ukrainian helicopter pilots are receiving training at UK airbases, significantly enhancing the mobility of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

Previously, the UK indicated plans to send troops to Ukraine after a peace agreement is concluded. London is also providing over $17 billion in support for Ukraine.
