British intelligence has explained the frequent Russian bombings on its own territory
The Russian military continues to accidentally drop glide bombs on Russian territory and temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories due to errors during aircraft preparation and the execution of combat missions.
According to British intelligence, since the beginning of 2026, at least 25 incidents of Russian glide bombs falling on Russian territory and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine have been recorded. In 2025, there were 143 such incidents, and in 2024, there were 165.
In particular, on May 16, Russian aircraft accidentally dropped a glide bomb on a residential building in the village of Dubove in the Belgorod region, killing one person.
British intelligence notes that the Russian Air Force conducts over 200 combat sorties per day, dropping between 180 and 250 glide bombs depending on weather conditions.
According to analysts, such incidents indicate systemic problems in the use of precision-guided munitions and may also be the result of inadequate preparation of aircraft for sorties, crew errors, and personnel fatigue.
British intelligence emphasizes that such incidents have devastating and deadly consequences for the population of the Russian Federation itself.
