A 17-year-old student who directed enemy fire has been detained in the Kharkiv region
The Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police, detained a minor who was acting as an agent for Russian military intelligence in the Kharkiv region.
The 17-year-old student at a local college was gathering strategic data on the deployment of the Defense Forces and coordinating enemy strikes in the Izyum area.
The suspect has been detained and faces a lengthy prison sentence for treason.
The young man came to the attention of Russian intelligence agencies due to his pro-Kremlin comments in private messaging apps. The occupiers exploited the teenager’s family conflict to recruit him for subversive activities against Ukraine.
“According to the case file, Russian intelligence officers recruited the teenager when he attempted to ‘order’ physical violence against his stepfather on Telegram channels due to a family conflict. In one of the chats, the minor received a response from Russia promising to eliminate his relative in exchange for spying in the interests of the aggressor country,” the agency’s statement reads.
To gather intelligence, the suspect used his job at a municipal utility company, where he worked part-time repairing roads and sidewalks.
Traveling through frontline areas under the guise of work trips, he secretly recorded the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The teenager marked the data he obtained on electronic maps and transmitted it to his Russian handlers.
The informant’s main tasks were to record the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, transmit coordinates, and provide fire correction.
The traitor patrolled the frontline area in the Izyum direction and covertly photographed the locations of checkpoints, fortified areas, and Defense Forces equipment.
He marked the obtained geolocations on electronic maps. The suspect also reported to his handlers on the results of Russian missile strikes and guided aerial bombs to facilitate follow-up attacks.
