A Channel 5 journalist and military personnel were injured in a strike by a Russian FPV drone

Channel 5 war correspondent Olga Kalinovska and servicemen from the 148th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade were wounded in an attack by a Russian FPV drone on a fiber-optic cable in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 3 near Pokrovsk, approximately 17 kilometers from the front line. The drone struck the protective mesh in front of the windshield of a military “Hummer” vehicle carrying the journalist, the press officer, and the soldiers.

As a result of the explosion, all passengers suffered concussions. Kalynovska was diagnosed with a mild acoustic trauma. According to her, serious injuries were avoided thanks to the vehicle’s additional protection.

The journalist noted that the drone was spotted only a few meters before the collision. At the same time, electronic warfare systems and the drone detection system failed to activate because the FPV drone was controlled via a fiber-optic cable.

According to Kalinovska, Russian troops are actively monitoring this section of the road with drones and attempting to disrupt logistics in the Pokrovsk area. Other vehicles traveling along this route were also attacked.
