UK Intelligence: Russia continues russification of occupied Ukrainian territories
Russia is intensifying its policy of Russifying people in the territories it illegally occupied after its invasion of Ukraine.
According to UK intelligence, on November 25 Vladimir Putin published a decree titled the “Russian National Policy Strategy for the Period Until 2036.”
The document envisions the formation of a Russian identity and the spread of the Russian language among residents of the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Intelligence reports note that the strategy includes the continuation of Russification policies, the imposition of the Russian language, culture, and identity, as well as the delegitimization of Ukrainian statehood.
The document refers to the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea, as part of Russia, calling them “historical territories of the Russian state,” which, according to intelligence analysts, underscores the imperialist nature of Moscow’s policy.
Dmytro Usov, Secretary of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, reported that Russia has forcibly mobilized 46,327 Ukrainian citizens from annexed Crimea and other temporarily occupied territories.
