Wild Hornets delivered 200 interceptor drones to the military
The Ukrainian MilTech company “Dyki Shershni” donated 200 interceptor drones to the Defense Forces, with a total value of 17.6 million hryvnias. This took place as part of the “150% Fundraiser,” organized by the “Come Back Alive” Foundation, Atlas Festival, and PrivatBank. In total, the fundraiser raised 174 million hryvnias—24 million more than the initial goal.
The Ukrainian defense company “Wild Hornets” has donated 200 interceptor drones to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The value of the donated equipment is 17.6 million hryvnias. The company notes that this is the largest contribution among Ukrainian MilTech manufacturers as part of this fundraiser. Representatives of “Wild Hornets” informed the “Drone Industry” project on Censor.NET about the transfer.
The drones were donated as part of the “150% Fundraiser”
The transfer of the interceptor drones took place as part of the charitable “150% Fundraiser.” It was organized by the “Come Back Alive” Foundation, Atlas Festival, and PrivatBank. The initial goal of the fundraiser was to raise 150 million hryvnias. However, in the end, Ukrainians, businesses, and philanthropists contributed 174 million hryvnias. In other words, the organizers managed to exceed the planned amount by 24 million hryvnias.
The total amount raised included more than just monetary contributions. Manufacturers of drones and other equipment also donated technology, the value of which was converted into a monetary equivalent. Among these contributions were 200 interceptor drones from “Wild Hornets.” Their value was estimated at 17.6 million hryvnias.
How the funds will be used
All funds raised are planned to be directed toward the “Dronefall” project of the “Come Back Alive” Foundation. Its main goal is to create and develop a drone-based air defense system. This involves using drones to combat Russian attack drones. This approach makes it possible to supplement traditional air defense systems with unmanned interceptor systems.
This is particularly important for Ukraine due to Russia’s regular use of attack drones. Russian troops use them to attack military and civilian targets, energy infrastructure, and cities. That is why interceptor drones have become a separate area of development for the Ukrainian defense industry.
What Is Known About “Wild Hornets”
“Wild Hornets” is a Ukrainian MilTech company engaged in the development and production of unmanned systems. In particular, the company develops interceptor drones designed to combat Russian attack drones. One such development is the Sting interceptor. “Wild Hornets” states that it was created to destroy Russian kamikaze drones, specifically the “Shaheds.”
The company is also working on other unmanned systems and communications technologies. According to the company, drones manufactured by “Wild Hornets” are already being used by more than 100 units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. These include units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the Special Operations Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Air Force, and the State Border Guard Service.
How Interceptor Drones Work
Interceptor drones are used as one of the methods to combat enemy drones. Their mission is to detect a Russian drone and intercept it before it reaches its target. This can be particularly important during massive attacks, when a large number of strike drones are launched simultaneously.
Interceptors can be used against various types of aerial targets. In the case of Russian “Shaheds,” the goal is to destroy the drone along its flight path. The development of such systems has become a distinct area of Ukraine’s defense industry. At the same time, interceptor drones do not replace other air defense systems but rather complement the overall airspace defense system.
“Dronopad” Continues to Expand Drone-Based Air Defense
The delivery of 200 interceptors is part of a larger effort to create a drone-based air defense system in Ukraine. The “Come Back Alive” Foundation allocates funds for the procurement and development of relevant unmanned systems. Not only citizens but also Ukrainian businesses and military equipment manufacturers are participating in this process.
In the case of the “150% Fundraiser,” contributions from manufacturers were included in the total amount raised. As a result, 174 million hryvnias were raised not only through direct donations but also through the donation of equipment. The “Wild Hornets” contributed 17.6 million hryvnias, which is approximately one-tenth of the total amount raised. The 200 interceptors that were donated are now to be used by the Defense Forces to combat Russian drones and strengthen the defense of Ukrainian airspace. The company informed the “Drone Industry” project of this.
