A drone crossed the Moldovan border and exploded during Russia's attack on Ukraine
During a massive airstrike by the Russian Federation on Ukraine last night, one of the drones crossed the Moldovan border and subsequently exploded in a farm field.
Specialized services from the neighboring republic quickly arrived at the scene of the incident, cordoned off the area, and began examining the debris.
According to official law enforcement reports, no local residents were injured as a result of the drone explosion.
The incident occurred on the night of June 8, 2026, in the border zone.
“The Ministry of Defense reports that on June 8, 2026, at 00:20, the surveillance systems of the National Army and cross-border cooperation recorded an unmanned aerial vehicle crossing the state border of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of the village of Mihailivka-Lopatna,” the Moldovan Ministry of Defense reported.
Almost simultaneously, reports of the airspace violation came from the civilian population.
As stated, “following the intervention of specialized units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was confirmed that fragments of an unmanned aerial vehicle were found in a farm field near the village of Lopatna.”
Prior to this, in the early hours of the morning, law enforcement received a clear report from an eyewitness to the incident.
Moldovan police stated that “the police received a report last night, around midnight, from a resident of the village of Lopatna, who reported observing an unidentified flying object, possibly a drone, in a rural area, which subsequently exploded.”
Emergency services, bomb disposal experts, and forensic investigators immediately arrived at the crash site to carry out initial safety measures.
“The area was cordoned off, secured, and is being monitored in accordance with procedures,” the law enforcement statement said.
Experts documented clear signs of a warhead detonation at the crash site in the field.
“Traces found at the scene indicate a previous explosion. The discovered fragments are being examined to determine the aircraft’s origin and the circumstances of the incident,” the Moldovan Ministry of Defense stated.
Representatives of the defense ministry also directly linked this incident to hostilities in the neighboring country.
“We note that last night, Ukraine was subjected to a massive Russian attack involving drones and missiles,” the statement reads.
