SBU drones struck an oil facility in Russia, causing a fire

The attack struck five oil storage tanks at once. On the night of April 21, drones from the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center struck the “Samara” line-production-dispatch station in Russia, triggering a massive fire there.

This was reported with reference to a source in the SBU.

At the station, located in the village of Prosvet in the Samara region of the Russian Federation, high- and low-sulfur crude oil from various fields is blended to produce the Urals export grade. The facility is a key component of the aggressor country’s oil transportation infrastructure.

According to preliminary data, SBU drones damaged five tanks, each with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters, containing crude oil.

"Striking such key facilities directly reduces the Russian Federation’s ability to assemble export shipments of oil and fulfill its contractual obligations. The balance of raw materials is disrupted, logistics and storage costs rise, and there is a risk of supply disruptions," the source said.

As a result, the aggressor country is receiving increasingly less revenue from oil sales, which it could otherwise direct toward the war against Ukraine.

The Kremlin is deliberately distorting Russia’s economic statistics, according to Swedish intelligence.

Russia is seeing a worsening economic situation and rising risks of loan defaults.

After three years of unexpected economic growth, Russia is facing a sudden slowdown—war expenses, inflation, and falling oil prices have begun to weigh on an economy that until recently seemed resilient to sanctions.

Consumer lending in Russia has fallen to a six-year low.
