Ukraine's environmental losses due to the war have exceeded 7 trillion hryvnias
The amount of confirmed environmental damage to Ukraine resulting from Russia’s full-scale aggression has already exceeded 7 trillion hryvnias.
Between June 12 and 19, 2026, environmental losses increased by more than 51.9 billion hryvnias.
The ministry notes that the assessment of environmental damage is ongoing, and the total amount continues to rise.
The bulk of the new damage was attributed to air pollution—over 51.2 billion hryvnias.
Specifically, 51.05 billion hryvnias resulted from forest fires and the burning of vegetation; 219.6 million hryvnias from the burning of oil, petroleum products, and gas; over 5.9 million UAH resulted from fires involving other objects and waste, and 702,000 UAH resulted from unregulated emissions of pollutants.
Soil pollution and littering amounted to +643.4 million UAH, with the bulk of this resulting from land littering; water pollution amounted to +150 thousand UAH.
According to estimates by the State Environmental Inspection, since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine’s environmental losses have exceeded 7 trillion UAH, and this figure continues to rise.
The Ministry of Economy emphasizes that the documentation of environmental crimes is ongoing, and the actual environmental losses may be even higher due to the continuation of hostilities.
