Environmental damage caused by Russia's aggression has increased by 50 billion hryvnias in one week
The total amount of damage caused to Ukraine’s environment as a result of Russia’s armed aggression increased by another 50 billion 35.19 million hryvnias during the period from July 17 to 24, 2026. This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, citing calculations by the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine.
According to the State Environmental Inspection, the vast majority of the new damages stem from the destruction and contamination of land resources—47 billion 759.42 million hryvnias. Specifically, the contamination of land with debris from destruction and munitions is estimated at 47 billion 648.8 million hryvnias, while soil contamination with hazardous substances is estimated at 110.62 million hryvnias.
Damage from emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere during shelling and emergencies during the reporting week reached 2 billion 275.76 million UAH. The largest portion of these losses was caused by fires at energy and oil infrastructure facilities—the burning of oil, petroleum products, and gas resulted in damages amounting to 2 billion 222.37 million hryvnias. In addition, forest fires and fires in green spaces caused damages amounting to 51.63 million UAH, while fires at other facilities caused 1.76 million UAH in damages.
All calculations were performed using officially approved methodologies for the subsequent preparation of legal claims and lawsuits against the Russian Federation in international courts.

As of June 23, the total amount of confirmed environmental damage to Ukraine resulting from the Russian Federation’s full-scale aggression has already exceeded 7 trillion hryvnias. Between June 12 and 19, 2026, environmental losses increased by more than 51.9 billion hryvnias.
