The head of the OCU called the Russian attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra a crime against Christianity
On the night of Monday, June 15, the roof of the Assumption Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra caught fire following yet another massive attack by Russian forces on the capital.
This cathedral is one of the most important shrines in the entire Christian world and an architectural landmark protected by UNESCO.
Rescue operations are currently underway at the site of the tragedy, while clergy and believers are calling on the international community to stop the Kremlin’s barbaric actions.
Metropolitan Epifaniy, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, reacted immediately to the tragic event. He called the shelling a deliberate attack on the religious identity of the Ukrainian people.
The head of the OCU called on all concerned individuals to join in prayer for the preservation of the national heritage. In his view, such actions by the occupiers reveal their true inhuman nature.
“As a result of the Russian shelling currently taking place on the night of June 15, the roof of one of the holiest sites in the Christian world—the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra—is on fire. We ask for your prayers to save this holy site from destruction. Yet another Russian crime against humanity, against history, against Christianity. What else must the Kremlin’s antichrist do for the world to realize that decisive action is needed to stop Russian terror against Ukraine and the very principles of peace?” emphasized Metropolitan Epiphanius.
Epiphanius reported this on Facebook.
