Zelenskyy explained how the air defense forces were able to shoot down a ballistic missile during the attack on Kyiv
Ukrainian air defense forces were able to effectively intercept Russian ballistic missiles during a nighttime attack thanks to a recently delivered military aid package.
The head of state held a meeting with journalists right next to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which was damaged by enemy shelling.
The country’s leader explained in detail to journalists why Ukrainian defenders were able to achieve such impressive results last night in shooting down the most challenging aerial targets.
According to him, air defense units promptly deployed anti-aircraft missiles from the very same supply package for Patriot systems that had only recently arrived in Ukraine.
The availability of these scarce munitions made it possible to protect a significant portion of critical infrastructure and save the lives of many residents.
“During the repulsion of the nighttime attack, air defense forces used missiles from the Patriot package recently delivered to Ukraine, so we had the means to shoot down ballistic missiles,” the president said.
Despite the successful use of the latest weapons, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that due to the massive scale of the airstrike, it was not possible to destroy absolutely all Russian missiles and drones.
The American Patriot air defense missile system currently remains the only system in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine capable of reliably intercepting ballistic targets.
The head of state emphasized that Ukraine needs a significantly larger number of such batteries to completely close the sky to enemy terror.
