How Ukrainian National Guard troops can return from AWOL to Azov Corps brigades
Ukrainian National Guard service members who left their unit without authorization can return to combat units of the 1st Azov Corps under a simplified procedure via the Army+ app. European Pravda reports on the procedure.
To return, a service member must complete a form on azov.army and wait for a call from the recruiting centre. They must then speak with Azov representatives and receive approval. A letter of recommendation from the unit they plan to join must also be obtained in advance. This is a mandatory step for reinstatement in the National Guard.
Next, the service member must install the Army+ app, submit a report and attach the required documents. After the relevant order appears in the app, the service member must report to the new duty station.

This procedure applies only to service members who left their unit without authorization while serving in the National Guard. The simplified return procedure is available until 20 September 2026 if the unauthorized absence occurred before 12 June 2026.
Service members may choose a unit from the designated list of brigades: Burevii, Azov, Chervona Kalyna, Kara-Dag or Liubart. The guidance also recommends explaining the circumstances that preceded the unauthorized absence and describing one’s skills, abilities and professional preferences when speaking with a prospective commander.
