Ignat: Air defense forces destroyed nearly 90% of the drones during the attack on July 2
During the massive Russian attack on July 2, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down about 90% of the attack drones and nearly all of the cruise missiles. At the same time, ballistic missiles remain the greatest threat to Ukraine.
“The overall interception rate for enemy attack drones is about 90%. Nearly all cruise missiles were shot down. Information regarding two missiles is currently being verified, but there is no data yet on whether they hit their targets. All components of the Defense Forces that engaged air targets did everything possible. The only thing is that ballistic defense remains a weakness that needs to be strengthened,” said Yuriy Ignat, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force.
During the massive Russian attack on the night of July 2, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 28 out of 70 ballistic missiles.
“These include Iskander-M missiles, S-400 anti-aircraft missiles used to strike ground targets, and Zircon missiles. Virtually all of these weapons were directed at the capital. Other regions were also struck, but the enemy directed its main strike capability specifically at Kyiv,” Ignat added.
On the night of July 3, Russian troops attacked a residential area in the city of Lozova with a strike drone. Six people, including three children, were injured as a result of the enemy strike, and rescuers freed five residents from a cellar.
In addition, Russian troops carried out 880 strikes on 62 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region over the past 24 hours. As a result of the massive attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district, 11 people were wounded, including four children.
Over the past day, 273 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines. Ukrainian forces continue to repel the advance of Russian occupation forces, inflicting significant losses on the enemy in terms of personnel, equipment, and military infrastructure.
On the night of July 3, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with two X-59/69 guided air-to-ground missiles and 105 strike and decoy drones. Air defense forces destroyed or intercepted 83 aerial targets.
On the night of July 1, Russian troops launched a massive attack with strike drones on the Dnipropetrovsk region.
As a reminder, on the evening of June 30, Russian forces attacked an electric locomotive in the Dnipropetrovsk region with a drone. There were no casualties, as the locomotive crew was warned of the danger in time, and the workers managed to take cover.
Ukrainian drones struck eight of the ten largest Russian oil refineries by processing volume, with some facilities being hit multiple times.
