The Kherson Thermal Power Plant suffered serious damage following attacks by the Russian Federation

Russian troops again attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant with aerial bombs overnight. This time, the plant sustained very serious damage, leading authorities to conclude that it will not be able to operate normally this winter. Residents of Kherson, especially families with children and the elderly, are urged to evacuate to safer regions if possible.

Russian forces struck the Kherson CHP again overnight. They used aerial bombs in the attack. Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported on the consequences.

According to him, the thermal power plant sustained very serious damage this time. Due to the damage, authorities can no longer expect the plant to operate as usual this winter. “This time, the facility sustained very serious damage. Because of this, we can no longer count on the normal operation of the thermal power plant and other critical infrastructure facilities this winter,” Prokudin noted.

In light of the situation, the head of the Regional State Administration appealed to Kherson residents, urging them to consider leaving the city. This applies especially to families with children and the elderly. If possible, they are advised to relocate to safer regions where relatives or friends live.

Authorities emphasize that this does not mean Kherson will be left without assistance. The city continues to be supplied with everything necessary, and the relevant services are already seeking solutions to help the city get through the winter.

How to Leave Kherson

City residents can contact the Kherson Regional State Administration if they need assistance with evacuation. The authorities are helping to organize departure, transportation, housing, and social support upon arrival in a safer region. The Kherson Regional State Administration’s contact center is available for this purpose:

  • 0 800 101 102

  • 0 800 330 951

You can also contact the government hotline at 1548 regarding evacuation.

Kherson Is Seeking an Alternative to the Thermal Power Plant

Following the damage to the thermal power plant, city authorities, utility services, energy providers, and the government are working on other options to supply the city with heat and electricity. The focus is on finding alternative solutions that will allow Kherson to be provided with the necessary resources despite the damage to critical infrastructure.

At the same time, the security situation in the city remains extremely challenging. Kherson is regularly subjected to Russian attacks, including drone strikes and airstrikes. Because of this, authorities are urging residents not to ignore evacuation recommendations and, if possible, to temporarily relocate to safer areas. This was stated in a message by Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, on his Telegram channel.

Earlier, Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on a facility in Kryvyi Rih.

As a reminder, Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles.

Prior to that, Russia attacked warehouses and energy infrastructure in the Odesa region.
