The number of attacks on Kherson has increased 2.5-fold; up to 20 people are injured every day
The intensity of Russian attacks on Kherson has increased 2.5-fold since the beginning of the year. At the same time, only about 20% of the city’s pre-war population remains there—approximately 60,000 people out of 300,000.
According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, a significant portion of the residents have left Kherson due to the constant Russian attacks.
“That’s about 20% of the pre-full-scale invasion population. The number was about 300,000; now it’s 60,000,” Prokudin said.
Thus, Kherson’s population has shrunk by about five times compared to pre-war levels.
Oleksandr Prokudin emphasized that virtually all of Kherson is currently under constant threat of Russian attacks. Even areas that were considered relatively safe just a few months ago have now become dangerous.
“There probably aren’t any ‘most dangerous’ places today. The entire area where Kherson is located is dangerous, including even those districts that two months ago could have been called more or less safe. Now it’s a red zone, where we have more wounded and killed people,” he explained.
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that at the beginning of the year, Kherson was subjected to about 2,500 attacks per week. Currently, that figure has risen to 6,000 attacks per week.
In addition:
- during the first half of the year, Kherson was hit by about 100 guided aerial bombs;
- in the last month alone, the city was attacked by approximately 200 more guided aerial bombs;
- Russian troops have also begun using “Shahed” rockets, which had not previously been observed in Kherson.
“This also applies to the ‘Shahed’ rockets, which we hadn’t seen before. Every night, they strike our critical infrastructure. The situation is getting worse. This is directly linked to the Russian attacks on Kherson,” Prokudin said.
According to him, it has been extremely dangerous to be in Kherson for over a year and a half now.
“Every day we see 20 people wounded or killed,” Prokudin added.

Over the past week, Russian troops have struck border crossing points in southern Ukraine four times. On the border with Moldova, the “Vynogradivka–Vulcanesti” border crossing was damaged, while the “Tabaky–Mirne” checkpoint was completely destroyed; the “Orlivka–Isakcha” checkpoint on the border with Romania was also hit.
As of the morning of September 4, power outages were reported in four regions of Ukraine as a result of new Russian shelling. Utility workers continue to work on restoring power and addressing the consequences of the enemy attacks.
