Chinese tourists flock to Murmansk seeking "lucky children" under the northern lights
Chinese tourists have been increasingly visiting Murmansk to conceive "lucky children" under the northern lights, as local legends promise. Since the introduction of visa-free travel, the region has become a winter tourism hotspot for Chinese visitors traveling to Teriberka to witness the aurora borealis, snow, and whale watching.
This was reported by Russian propaganda media
According to SHOT and the Russian Union of Travel Industry, bookings have surged by 20%, with a further 40% increase expected next year. The number of Chinese tourists in Russia could reach 500,000 this year and up to two million in 2024.
This tourism trend is significantly influencing the development of northern regions and opening up prospects for continued growth in Russia’s travel industry and cultural exchange between the countries.
