The Kremlin is responding to setbacks on the front lines with attacks on cities – Lithuanian Foreign Ministry

Russia’s massive missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities are evidence of its weakness on the battlefield. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated that the Kremlin is attempting to compensate for its military failures by terrorizing the civilian population.

Kęstutis Budrys emphasized that after a week of targeted intimidation, Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, forcing millions of civilians to spend their nights in bomb shelters.

“This latest wave of terror is yet another reminder that the Kremlin continues to rely on attacks against civilians because it is suffering defeats on the battlefield,” the head of Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry said.

Burdrys harshly criticized isolated calls from the international community to resume dialogue with Russia and Belarus. According to the diplomat, such initiatives ignore the obvious reality: a return to normal relations with aggressor states that terrorize people on a daily basis is impossible.

The head of Lithuania’s foreign ministry emphasized that instead of yet another round of statements expressing concern, Western partners must move to decisive action. Budrys called for the implementation of five critically important steps:

  • Increasing military support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  • Maximizing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
  • Complete political and economic isolation of the aggressor countries.
  • Confiscation of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.
  • Accelerating Ukraine’s accession to the EU by immediately opening all negotiation clusters.

“The Kremlin must understand that every act of terror will lead to increased costs for itself, deeper isolation, and stronger support for Ukraine,” Budris concluded.
