Russia's massive strikes are evidence of its defeats on the front lines, says EU Ambassador to Ukraine
Russia’s massive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine are a sign that the Russian Federation is suffering setbacks on the battlefield. This was stated by Katarina Mathernova, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine.
The diplomat said she learned of the nighttime shelling while traveling to Kyiv and emphasized that despite Russia’s terror, Ukraine continues to hold its ground.
“We have been hearing threats for some time that Russia is preparing another large-scale strike on Kyiv. Last night, it happened… Last night’s attack was the result of repeated threats from the Kremlin regarding ‘systematic strikes’ on Kyiv,” she wrote.
According to the diplomat, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned in advance about the preparation of a new wave of attacks.
Maternova emphasized that, despite the intense shelling, Ukraine will not be broken.
She also noted that the EU continues to provide substantial support to Ukraine, including 90 billion euros in defense and budgetary aid from the EU.
The EU ambassador stated that Russia is gradually losing the ability to continue the war.
“Ukraine currently has €90 billion in defense and budgetary support from the European Union at its disposal. Meanwhile, Russia is struggling, squeezing out its last reserves of strength… It is running out of financial resources, human resources, strength, and motivation,” Maternova emphasized.
In her Facebook post, Maternova noted that the new wave of strikes was a continuation of Russian threats of massive attacks on the capital.
On the night of June 2, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine, using missiles and drones.
According to the Air Force, 642 of the 729 launched targets were neutralized. The main target of the strike was Kyiv; Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava Oblast, and other regions were also attacked.
In the Lubny district of Poltava region, two people were injured as a result of a Russian missile and drone attack. Damage to a business and civilian infrastructure was also reported.
During a massive combined attack on Zaporizhzhia on the night of June 1–2, interceptor pilots from the 23rd Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard “Khortytsia” destroyed 20 enemy aerial targets.
