Lavrov named another condition set by Russia for ending the war in Ukraine
Russia considers the free use of the Russian language to be one of the conditions for resolving the war against Ukraine. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
According to Lavrov, Moscow demands that the free use of the Russian language be ensured not only in territories temporarily occupied by Russia, but throughout the entire territory of Ukraine.
“The freedom to use the Russian language not only in the liberated territories but also throughout the entire territory of Ukraine is one of the conditions for a settlement,” Lavrov said. It should be noted that by “liberated territories,” the representative of the aggressor country means Ukrainian cities and villages occupied by Russia.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry also claimed that “nowhere in the world, except in Ukraine, is an entire linguistic space banned.” Lavrov used these statements to explain Moscow’s position regarding its demands on Ukraine.
At the same time, this is not the first time the occupiers have included the language issue among their demands on Ukraine. On the eve of a UN Security Council meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow intends to raise the issue of “ensuring the rights of Russians and Russian-speaking people in Ukraine.”
Lavrov also stated that Russia allegedly has no intention of pausing hostilities during the negotiations. At the same time, he claimed that Moscow is ready for negotiations to achieve what the Russian side calls “a lasting and just peace.”
