Lavrov on the US president's peace plan: key points must remain unchanged

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russia received the US peace plan through unofficial channels.

Moscow says it is ready for negotiations but warns that it is unacceptable to remove the points agreed upon by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump during their meeting in Alaska.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow has received only the initial version of the plan and that no updated version has been provided yet. This draft is considered interim and was sent from Geneva to Abu Dhabi. According to Lavrov, the Kremlin is now awaiting a final version agreed between the United States, Ukraine, and the European Union. Russia is ready to “discuss specific wording,” but he stressed that removing any of the Alaska agreements would radically alter the situation.

Lavrov warned that “the spirit and the letter of Anchorage” contain key principles that cannot be ignored, otherwise the negotiations will take on a completely different character.

The diplomat noted that Russia is working with a 28-point plan and criticised European states for allegedly “failing” in their role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. He also described the wave of rumours and speculation surrounding the issue as attempts to discredit the US president’s peace initiative.

It should be recalled that after the talks in Geneva, the US peace plan for Ukraine was reduced to 19 points.

Moscow also considers the American peace plan acceptable.
