A massive drone strike paralysed the energy system of Belgorod, Russia

On the night of 23 February, Russia’s Belgorod region came under one of the most powerful combined attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion.

As a result of precise strikes on critical infrastructure facilities supporting the logistics of occupying forces, a significant part of the regional centre — Belgorod — was left without electricity and heating.

Local authorities confirmed serious damage to the city’s energy hubs. The primary targets of the attack were strategic electrical substations used by the Russian military to sustain operations.

In particular, the “Frunzenskaya” substation near the village of Dragunskoye and the “Donets” facility were hit. A large-scale fire was also reported at the “Belgorod 110 kV” substation.

In addition to energy infrastructure, the building of the local branch of Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) sustained damage.

Earlier reports said that Ukrainian forces had once again caused power outages in Belgorod. It was also reported that there will be no hot water in Belgorod until the end of April.
