Massive strike on St. Nicholas Day: details of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine
On the night of December 6, Russia launched another combined strike on critical infrastructure in Ukraine, using attack drones and missiles from air, sea, and land, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
According to the Air Force, radar troops detected and tracked 704 aerial attack targets, including 51 missiles (17 of them ballistic) and 653 drones of various types:
- 653 attack drones of the Shahed and Gerbera types (and other drones) from Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea (over 300 of them were Shahed drones)
- Three Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles (launched from Ryazan and Tambov regions, Russia)
- 34 cruise missiles (Kh-101 / Iskander-K / Kalibr) from Rostov region, Russia, and the Black Sea
- 14 ballistic missiles (Iskander-M / KN-23) from Bryansk, Rostov, Krasnodar regions, Russia, and temporarily occupied Crimea
The air attacks were countered by Ukrainian aviation, air defense missile units, electronic warfare and drone units, and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces.
Preliminary reports as of 10:00 indicate that air defenses shot down or suppressed 615 aerial targets:
- 585 enemy drones (Shahed, Gerbera, and other types)
- 29 cruise missiles (Kh-101 / Iskander-K / Kalibr)
- 1 ballistic missile (Iskander-M / KN-23)
Missile and drone strikes hit 29 locations, and debris from downed drones fell in three locations.
During the combined attack, explosions were heard in Kyiv. Local authorities reported air defense activity, and the Air Force confirmed Kinzhal and ballistic missiles flying toward the capital.
There were confirmed strikes in Fastiv. According to “Ukrzaliznytsia,” railway infrastructure was damaged. Passenger train routes that were supposed to pass through Fastiv are being urgently changed.
As a result of the massive drone and missile attack on Kyiv Oblast, three people were injured.
