Air defense forces shot down 345 drones during a massive daytime attack by Russia

On April 1, Ukrainian air defenders repelled a large-scale daytime attack, shooting down 345 out of 361 Russian drones.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, the enemy launched over 700 strike drones of various types in total over the course of the day. The main wave of attacks occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., when 361 UAVs attacked Ukrainian territory, including approximately 250 “Shahed”-type drones, as well as “Gerbera” drones and other models.

Most enemy targets approached from the southeast, heading toward the western regions of the country. Manned aircraft, anti-aircraft drones, ground-based air defense units, and electronic warfare assets were deployed to repel the attack. Despite the high effectiveness of the defenders’ efforts, 14 hits were recorded, resulting in civilian casualties.

As of the evening of April 1, combat operations are ongoing, as isolated targets remain in the airspace. The massive use of cheap decoy drones alongside strike UAVs indicates the aggressor’s attempt to exhaust the Ukrainian air defense system. Military officials urge citizens not to ignore air raid sirens and to remain in shelters until the official all-clear is given. Up-to-date information on the consequences of strikes and the status of the power grid is being updated by official Air Force resources and local administrations.
