Residents of Russia’s Engels endure tenth day without heating as temperatures fall to −29°C
Residents of the city of Engels in Russia’s Saratov region have been without heating and hot water for nearly ten days amid severe морозs. According to Yandex Weather, temperatures have dropped to −25°C and are expected to fall to −29°C.
ASTRA reports that residents of several apartment blocks recorded a collective video appeal to the head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin.
According to one of the organisers, Valentina, heating was cut off on 13 January. Since then, indoor temperatures have not risen above 13–15°C. Hot water is either completely unavailable or only lukewarm.
Locals say the problem affects around ten residential buildings, as well as a school and two kindergartens. Parents were reportedly advised to dress children more warmly rather than classes being suspended.
Ukraine has increasingly successfully carried out air strikes against targets inside Russia, and as Russian air defences gradually degrade, the scale of damage is expected to grow.
Earlier, drones attacked an oil depot and refinery in Russia on New Year’s Eve, causing fires. On 31 December, UAVs struck the Temp Federal Reserve facility in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region.
