Moscow refinery halts operations following Ukrainian drone attack – Reuters

A Moscow oil refinery has temporarily halted oil processing following a drone attack that occurred on the night of May 17. According to Reuters, the strike was part of a massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on targets in Moscow and the Moscow region. It is reported that the refinery’s operations have been partially suspended due to the attack.

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the plant’s production facilities remain intact, but 12 people were injured in the strike—mostly construction workers who were near the entrance gates.

This plant is owned by Gazpromneft and is a key supplier of fuel for the Russian capital and its region. The scale of the facility is evidenced by figures from 2024, when it processed approximately 11.6 million tons of crude oil and produced millions of tons of gasoline, diesel, and bitumen. The plant’s owners are not commenting on the situation at this time.
