Video: Following a series of explosions in Russia's Stavropol Krai, authorities reported an attack on a factory
On the night of May 20, a series of explosions rocked the Stavropol Krai region of Russia, followed by reports that the Nevinnomyssk Azot plant had been hit. The plant is one of the largest producers of ammonia and ammonium nitrate in Russia. Details regarding the extent of the damage and the consequences of the attack are still being clarified.
This is being reported by Russian Telegram channels.
Drones attacked the city of Nevinnomyssk in Russia’s Stavropol Krai. According to preliminary information, the local Nevinnomyssk Azot plant was hit, and a fire likely broke out there following a series of explosions.
Mayor Mikhail Minenkov reported that air defense systems were activated and that an “air battle” was underway. The official urged local residents to immediately leave the streets and take shelter.
"Nevinnomyssk Azot" is part of the "EuroChem" group owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko and is one of the largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers and chemical raw materials in southern Russia. The company produces ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea, nitric acid, methanol, and organic synthesis products.
OSINT analysts have noted that the plant is one of the key facilities in Russia’s chemical industry for several reasons:
- the plant produces components necessary for the manufacture of explosives;
- the plant supplies the Russian defense industry with chemical raw materials;
- the plant is one of the largest producers of ammonia and ammonium nitrate in the Russian Federation;
- the facility has an extensive industrial infrastructure with large chemical storage tanks;
- important logistics routes in southern Russia pass through the plant.
