Moldova’s Foreign Ministry warned citizens about the risk of forced service in the Russian army
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova has issued a warning to its citizens who are staying in the territory of Russia about the risk of forced mobilization into the Russian army in connection with new Russian legislation.
This was reported by the Moldovan outlet Point.
Diplomats emphasized that certain categories of foreign nationals may come under pressure through procedures related to obtaining a residence permit or Russian citizenship.
The ministry urged citizens to exercise maximum caution and to carefully monitor any demands made by Russian authorities.
According to Moldovan diplomats, Russian authorities have introduced regulations that allow officials to require foreign nationals to sign a contract for service in the Russian army as a condition for considering applications for residence permits or citizenship.
If applicants refuse, they may be compelled to provide medical certificates proving unfitness for military service, which effectively creates an additional tool of pressure.
Such an approach, in the view of Moldova’s Foreign Ministry, turns bureaucratic procedures into a means of hidden mobilization of foreign citizens.
