Over the past 24 hours, 118 combat engagements took place along the front lines; the Russian army has sharply intensified its attacks using aerial bombs, drones, and artillery, with the fiercest fighting occurring in the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka sectors. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 10:00 PM on April 17, 2026, since the start of the day, the enemy has carried out 118 combat engagements, launched one missile strike, and conducted 38 airstrikes, using 128 guided aerial bombs. There was also a massive use of drones—over 4,031 kamikaze drones and nearly 2,400 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.
North and East: Constant Pressure
Three combat engagements took place in the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk directions; the enemy also actively employed aviation, artillery, and multiple launch rocket systems. In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna direction, one assault attempt was recorded in the Vovchanski Khutory area.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled an attack near Petropavlivka, while in the Lyman direction, the enemy twice attempted to advance near Hrekivka and toward Lyman.
Sloviansk and Kramatorsk directions
In the Sloviansk direction, Russian troops carried out two attacks in the Yampil area and toward Raigorodok. In the Kramatorsk direction, no active assault operations were recorded over the past 24 hours, but the situation remains tense due to neighboring sections of the front.
The fiercest fighting is in Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka
The most intense fighting continues in the Kostiantynivka sector, where Ukrainian forces repelled 18 assaults in the areas of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Rusyno Yar, Stepanivka, Sofiivka, and other settlements. Two clashes were still ongoing there at the time of this report.
The situation is no less tense in the Pokrovsk direction, where the enemy carried out 24 attacks, attempting to advance in the areas of Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Hryshyne, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, and other settlements. Some of the battles also remained active.
According to preliminary data, Ukrainian forces eliminated 48 occupiers and wounded another 14 in this sector, as well as destroyed and damaged equipment, artillery, shelters, and dozens of logistics assets and drones.
South: Attacks and Breakthrough Attempts
In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy attempted to improve its positions eight times, particularly toward several settlements, and also carried out airstrikes. In the Huliaipole sector, 11 attacks were recorded, with some fighting continuing, while Russian aviation struck a number of settlements in the region.
In the Orikhiv sector, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions twice, and in the Dnipro sector, it made four attempts to advance toward the Antonivsky Bridge, but without success.
The front remains extremely active and stretched, with simultaneous pressure on several sectors where Russian troops are attempting to find weaknesses in the defense, employing massive airstrikes, drones, and assault groups, but are suffering significant losses and failing to achieve substantial advances.
Journalists have also identified the names of 212,188 Russian soldiers who have died since the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine.
Russian troops carried out a massive drone attack on the energy infrastructure of Zhytomyr Oblast, concentrating the strike of approximately 20 drones on a single substation.
