SBU detains Russian agent in Odesa Region who was gathering data on Defence Forces facilities

In Odesa Region, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) exposed and detained a Russian agent who was passing the coordinates of local military facilities to the occupiers.

This was reported by the SBU press service.

The suspect acted on instructions from the special services of the aggressor state and attempted to assist the enemy in destroying the infrastructure of Ukraine’s defenders.

According to investigators, the detainee is a 41-year-old unemployed resident of Izmail who was evading mobilisation and looking for “easy money” through Telegram channels.

It was there that representatives of Russia’s FSB contacted him and recruited him to carry out reconnaissance and sabotage tasks.

His main mission was to identify temporary deployment points of Ukrainian military formations, including units of the National Guard and the Military Law Enforcement Service.

To collect intelligence, the agent surveyed the surrounding area, photographed potential “targets” and marked them on a digital map. He transmitted all the data to his handler via a messenger app.

The Russians planned to use the obtained information to carry out aerial strikes.

Later, the agent received a new task — to set fire to one of the facilities he had previously identified. However, he failed to carry out the sabotage, as SBU officers acted pre-emptively and detained him while he was preparing to commit the crime.

It is recalled that the SBU has uncovered new schemes to evade mobilisation across Ukraine.

The SBU has also exposed a GRU agent who was leaking the locations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Kramatorsk.
