In the Sumy region, the Main Intelligence Directorate identified a Russian mercenary from Mauritius who had been killed

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has identified another foreign mercenary who fought as part of the Russian occupation army. The individual in question is Stephen Boakye Prakash, a citizen of the Republic of Mauritius, who, according to intelligence reports, was killed during an assault operation in the Sumy region.

The Main Intelligence Directorate reported that Prakash was born on April 16, 1995. He arrived in Russia on June 22, 2025, allegedly as a tourist, and was supposed to return to Africa on July 21, but remained in the aggressor country.

According to intelligence reports, on August 21, 2025, Russian law enforcement officials fined the man 7,000 rubles for illegally staying in Russia. Afterward, he—like many other foreigners—was offered the option of signing a short-term contract with the Russian Armed Forces as an alternative to deportation or other penalties.

After a week of training, Prakash was sent to assault units. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, he was killed approximately in December 2025 while attempting to illegally cross the Ukrainian state border in the Sumy region.

Intelligence sources noted that this case is part of a scheme to recruit citizens of African countries. According to the GUR, foreigners are promised jobs, issued visas, and provided with tickets to Russia; however, upon arrival, their documents are confiscated, they are told there are no job openings, and they are given a choice: deportation, imprisonment, or signing a contract with the Russian army.

The Main Intelligence Directorate emphasized that voluntarily surrendering is the only chance of survival for foreign mercenaries fighting on Russia’s side against Ukraine.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported this on Facebook on July 24.

As a reminder, Russia plans to resettle hundreds of thousands of its citizens in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

The Main Intelligence Directorate revealed the stories of two mercenaries from Cameroon whom Russia sent into “meat grinders.”
