An occupier honored by Putin committed a war crime in Ukraine

Ukrainian law enforcement officials have charged Russian serviceman Sharifzade Shahin Rafik Ogly—who was awarded the Order “For Courage” by Putin—with committing a brutal war crime against the civilian population. 

According to the investigation, on March 6, 2022, in the temporarily occupied village of Sloboda in the Chernihiv district, the commander of a Russian Armed Forces artillery platoon, along with his subordinates, opened fire on a civilian Volkswagen Golf bearing a sticker “Children,” which had stopped at the invaders’ demand. The car’s occupants were all unarmed civilians—the driver, his two children, and his niece. 

As a result of the targeted fire, during which the occupiers fired at least 15 bullets, the driver died on the spot from chest wounds, and another female passenger suffered a severe comminuted fracture of the tibia. After the shooting, the suspect dragged the injured woman out of the car and threatened to kill her, promising to throw the rest of the passengers into the basement; but the victims were later flown by helicopter to Belarus, from where they were only able to leave in May. 

Currently, the Russian officer’s actions have been classified under Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as cruel treatment of the civilian population, combined with premeditated murder committed by a group of persons acting in concert.

In the Khabarovsk Krai of the Russian Federation, a general implicated in crimes in Bucha was blown up.

Earlier, the National Police of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, identified five Russian military personnel implicated in the shootings of civilians during the occupation of Bucha in 2022.
