Ukraine needs to form new brigades due to the threat from Belarus, says Syrsky

Ukraine needs to form new brigades due to the threat from Belarus, says Syrsky

Ukraine must form new brigades to strengthen its defenses along the northern front in light of the potential threat from Belarus and Russia’s intentions to expand the zone of hostilities.

According to him, having failed to achieve its objectives on the main fronts, Russia is attempting to expand the scale of hostilities in northern Ukraine

According to the occupiers’ plans, this could lead to an increase in the length of the active front line by 160 kilometers.

Syrskyi emphasized that the Russian army has an advantage in terms of troop numbers and weaponry, so Ukraine is forced to strengthen its forces to effectively counter a possible offensive.

“The enemy, by the way, has adjusted its plans and intends to create new divisions and five brigades this year. We are forced to respond to such actions. In war, you either seize the initiative or lose it. There is no third option,” Syrskyi emphasized.

The Commander-in-Chief also explained why creating new brigades is more expedient than simply increasing the size of existing units.

“If you increase the size of a brigade, it won’t extend the length of the front line along which it can be deployed,” he noted.

According to Syrskyi, a combat brigade cannot be stretched indefinitely across new sections of the front. Instead, increasing its personnel allows it to carry out combat missions for longer in a specific territory, but does not expand its area of responsibility.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized that modern warfare has different characteristics, as the front line has expanded significantly not only in width but also in depth.

“So, as the front expands both in width and depth, the math is inescapable: new military units are needed,” he concluded.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine believe that forming new brigades is a necessary step to strengthen the defense of the northern regions and respond to Russia’s plans to expand hostilities.

This was stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi in a comment to LIGA.net.

Recently, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Oleksandr Syrskyi made a working visit to the area of active combat operations in the Oleksandrivka sector

Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi made a working visit to military units carrying out combat missions in the Donetsk region, where he heard reports from brigade commanders and a border guard detachment regarding the current situation and the support provided to the units.

As a reminder, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi approved the Concept for the Development of the Missile Forces and Artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which outlines the key directions for the development of these branches of the military through 2030.
