Shelling of Novovolynsk: enemy repeatedly targets energy infrastructure
Overnight on 9 February, Russian forces carried out a second attack on the critical infrastructure of the Novovolynsk community.
The occupiers once again targeted a strategic energy facility, causing widespread disruptions to the city and surrounding settlements.
The city mayor, Borys Karpus, confirmed the latest act as another war crime by Russia. He noted that the situation remains tense, as the strike was aimed at a key regional energy hub.
The enemy hit a high-voltage substation, causing it to shut down completely. Due to significant equipment damage, more than 80,000 consumers were left without electricity.
“The enemy delivered another strike on the high-voltage substation. There is serious damage, and the substation is not operational! Emergency services and all relevant teams are working on-site. Currently, over 80,000 residents of the Novovolynsk community and nearby settlements are without power,” the mayor reported.
Emergency Service and energy specialists are currently working to mitigate the effects of the strike. Restoration efforts are ongoing, but the scale of the damage means it will take considerable time to fully stabilise the network.
It should be recalled that Russian drones recently attacked the Kharkiv region, as well as Naftogaz facilities in the Poltava region.
