Russian shelling has left six regions without power; the situation is most dire in Sumy Oblast

As of the morning of June 4, consumers in six regions of Ukraine remain without power due to Russian attacks. The energy infrastructure sustained the most damage in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

According to the power grid operator, the enemy continues to strike civilian energy facilities in Ukraine.

“The enemy continues to attack Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure. As a result of enemy drone attacks and artillery shelling of regions near the front lines and along the border with Russia, there are new power outages as of this morning in the Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The situation is most critical in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, where the number of new power outages is the highest due to equipment damaged by the enemy, the statement reads.

Thus, power outages have been recorded in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Specialists have already begun emergency repair work on all damaged sections where the security situation permits.

Power workers continue to work around the clock to restore power to residents of the affected regions as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Ukrenergo reported that as of 9:30 a.m. on June 4, electricity consumption was 2.8% lower than at the same time the previous day.

This decrease was due to sunny weather in central and western regions of Ukraine, which promotes more active operation of residential solar power plants and reduces the load on the power grid.

Despite the absence of anticipated restrictions, the power grid operator recommends that citizens use electricity rationally throughout the day.

In particular, Ukrainians are urged to:

  • postpone energy-intensive activities to the period between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.;
  • not to turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time in the evening;
  • be especially careful with electricity consumption from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, when the load on the system traditionally increases.

Ukrenergo emphasizes that responsible electricity consumption helps maintain the stable operation of the power grid amid constant Russian attacks.

This was reported by NPC Ukrenergo on Facebook.

Russian troops continue to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and energy sector workers. On the morning of June 4, the occupiers attacked a company vehicle belonging to Sumyoblenergo JSC, injuring an employee of the company.

The previous day, June 3, Russian troops shelled Kharkiv and 17 other settlements in the region. Three people were killed in the attacks, and another 21 sustained injuries of varying severity.

In the Kyiv region, efforts are underway to extinguish a large-scale fire at an industrial facility caused by a nighttime attack by Russian drones. Units of the State Emergency Service are involved in the firefighting, and cleanup operations are ongoing.

On the night of June 4, Russian forces carried out a massive air attack using a ballistic missile and 293 drones of various types. Ukraine’s air defense forces destroyed or intercepted 264 aerial targets.
