Occupiers attack ports in Odesa region, casualties and destruction reported
Today, January 7, 2026, the Russian occupying army carried out another attack on the port infrastructure of the Odesa region, using missiles and strike drones.
According to Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba, as a result of the enemy strike, one person was killed, and at least five others sustained injuries of varying severity.
All those affected are currently receiving necessary medical care. Emergency services and law enforcement are working at the sites of impact, documenting the consequences of yet another crime against civilians and global food security.
The strike caused significant damage to port facilities: administrative buildings, storage premises, and containers with vegetable oil were damaged. Despite the considerable destruction of infrastructure, the ports continue to operate, providing maritime logistics and export connections. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Russia’s actions are a deliberate attempt to undermine Ukraine’s economic stability and destroy the logistical chains involved in ensuring global food security.
This attack was part of a massive strike on Ukraine on Christmas Day, during which the air defense forces shot down 82 out of 96 aerial targets. In addition to Odesa, industrial and civilian facilities in other regions of the country were hit. However, ports remain one of the occupier’s main targets due to their strategic role in global trade. Unlike Russia, which uses food as a weapon, Ukraine, together with international partners, continues to make efforts to ensure the stable operation of the “grain corridor” even under constant threat of attacks.
Earlier, as a result of Russia’s massive attacks on the infrastructure of the Pivdennyi port in the Odesa region, a leak of vegetable oil into the Black Sea was recorded.
According to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, oil-like stains and dead birdswere found on two beaches in Odesa. An investigation has been launched into this incident.
