During a nighttime attack on Ukraine, air defense forces shot down 109 Russian drones
On the night of August 2, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 133 strike and decoy drones of various types. Air defense forces shot down 109 enemy drones, but strikes were recorded at 19 locations.
According to military sources, the Russians used Shahed-type strike drones (including jet-powered ones), “Gerbera” drones, “Italmas,” “Banderol” loitering munitions, and “Parody”-type decoy drones. The launches were carried out from the Oryol and Kursk regions of the Russian Federation, as well as from the temporarily occupied Donetsk region and Crimea.
As of 08:00, air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 109 enemy drones in northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.
At the same time, 24 attack drones were recorded striking 19 locations. In addition, debris from downed drones was found at three other locations.
The Air Force emphasized that the attack is ongoing and that enemy drones remain in Ukrainian airspace. Ukrainians were urged not to ignore air raid sirens and to follow safety guidelines.

As a reminder, on the night of August 2, drones attacked a number of targets on Russian territory, including the Saratov oil refinery and the Wildberries logistics complex in the Samara region.
Over the past day, the Russian army lost another approximately 1,500 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. As of August 2, the total losses of Russian personnel since the start of the full-scale invasion have reached an estimated 1,449,120 people.
