A Red Cross volunteer was killed during the Russian attack on Odesa

The Ukrainian Red Cross reported the death of volunteer and first-aid instructor Olena Arkhipova. She was killed in a Russian attack on Odesa carried out by Russian forces on the night of July 17.

 

According to the organization, during the airstrike, Olena Arkhipova was rushing to take cover with her children. She was killed, but her children survived. They are receiving all necessary assistance.

“During the nighttime attack on Odesa, Olena Arkhipova, a volunteer and first-aid instructor with the Ukrainian Red Cross, was killed. At the moment of the strike, Olena was rushing to a shelter with her children. The children survived and are receiving all necessary assistance,” the statement reads.

The Red Cross reported that Arkhipova was the mother of three children and joined the organization’s team in 2023 as a first-aid instructor. She conducted training sessions for employees of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, adults, and children, and was actively involved in humanitarian initiatives in the Odesa region.

On the day of her death, Olena was set to begin training to become a first-aid instructor for people with physical disabilities.

“She taught others how to save lives and, through her own example every day, proved that humanity, compassion, and care can change the world,” the Ukrainian Red Cross stated.

The organization expressed its condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues.

As a reminder, a missile strike on Odesa claimed the lives of two people, and ten others were injured.

Prior to this, Russia had launched a missile strike on Odesa, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
