Following a drone attack, Gazprom's Astrakhan gas processing plant halted fuel production

Gazprom’s Astrakhan gas processing plant has halted production of automotive fuel following a drone attack on May 13. The strike triggered a massive fire at the facility, damaging key processing equipment.

This was reported by Reuters.

The strike knocked out the plant’s main production lines.

It is reported that the strike hit a combined stable condensate processing unit with a capacity of 3 million tons per year.

Equipment for hydrogen sulfide removal, sulfur extraction, and the operation of the entire production complex was also damaged.

These elements are considered critical to the plant’s operation.

Igor Babushkin, governor of the Astrakhan region, confirmed the fire at the plant, citing “falling drone debris.”

According to Reuters sources, the resumption of motor fuel production could take anywhere from several weeks to several months, depending on the extent of the damage.

It is noteworthy that prior to the attack, the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant had already been undergoing repairs for a long time.

It was only in April 2026 that the plant resumed active operations after a previous shutdown.

Earlier in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, a Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a high-explosive bomb on railroad tracks during a combat sortie, causing an electric train to derail.

Attacks on oil refineries have costRussia over $7 billion since the start of the year — WP.

As a reminder, the day before, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Tuapse oil refinery for the fourth time in the last two weeks. A massive fire broke out on the plant’s grounds following a series of explosions.

As a reminder, drones attacked Tuapse again, causing fires at the oil refinery and in the port.
