Following Ukrainian strikes, Russia has launched a new wave of disinformation in Europe — Estonian intelligence

Following Ukraine’s successful long-range strikes on Russian oil refineries and other strategic targets, the Kremlin has stepped up its information campaign against Western countries. This was stated by Colonel Ants Kiviselg, head of the Estonian Armed Forces Intelligence Center.

According to him, Russia traditionally uses propaganda and disinformation as tools to influence European states. The main message of the Russian campaign is that Ukraine’s successes were allegedly made possible solely by Western support.

Kiviselg noted that the Kremlin is trying to intimidate European society, create a sense of threat of escalation, and weaken support for Ukraine among its allies.

Among the main false claims currently being spread by Russian propaganda — claims that the Baltic states and Finland are allegedly allowing Ukraine to use their airspace to launch strikes against Russian territory, statements about the “mass expulsion” of the Russian-speaking population from the Baltic states, as well as reports of the alleged possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Lithuania and Finland.

According to Estonian intelligence, these disinformation campaigns are part of the Kremlin’s attempts to undermine the unity of Ukraine’s Western partners.
