Southern Odesa region left without electricity and heating

Overnight strikes by Russian forces on energy infrastructure have left more than 95,000 people in southern Odesa region without electricity and heating. The hardest-hit area is the town of Kiliya, where more than 200 buildings have been left without gas supply and central heating. This was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper.

In total, 42 settlements in Odesa region were left without power as a result of the night attacks. According to Kiper, the most difficult situation is in Kiliya. More than 9,000 residents there are without heating, as electricity is required to operate gas boilers and central heating systems.

“Due to the lack of electricity, thousands of homes have become cold. Our services are already working to restore power supply,” Kiper said. “We have directed all available resources to stabilise the situation.”

To deal with the aftermath of the strike, additional emergency response units have been deployed to the southern part of the region, including seven high-capacity generators, eight heat guns, and five field kitchens. In addition, ten assistance points are being set up, with more to be opened if necessary. Resilience and heating centres are operating in every district, providing backup power, hot drinks, and essential aid to residents.

A coordination meeting has already been held in Kiliya with representatives of DTEK, emergency services, and local authorities. Priority steps have been identified to restore electricity and stabilise the situation.

“The damage to energy facilities is significant, but energy workers are operating around the clock. We are doing everything possible to restore electricity and heating to people as quickly as possible,” Kiper added.

Emergency repair works are ongoing 24/7. Authorities urge residents to remain cautious, make use of heating centres, and follow safety measures during disruptions to energy supply.
