The EU ambassador described Russia's nighttime attack on Kyiv as a living hell

The EU ambassador described Russia's nighttime attack on Kyiv as a living hell

Katarina Maternová, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, described the nighttime combined strike by Russian occupation forces on Kyiv as “a veritable hell.”

This attack was one of the largest since the full-scale invasion began and lasted more than 12 hours, resulting in numerous civilian casualties.

The diplomat noted that the night was extremely difficult for the capital’s residents, many of whom were forced to seek shelter in bomb shelters.

According to preliminary data from the authorities, 13 people were killed and 84 were injured to varying degrees as a result of the enemy shelling.

“It seemed as if a significant part of the city was on fire. People spent the night in bomb shelters. Many of those who didn’t make it there in time were killed or are now fighting for their lives in the hospital. As I write these words, many people remain trapped under the rubble of burning buildings,” she wrote in her Facebook post.

Katarina Maternová personally experienced these horrific events, waking up to the sound of an air raid siren and heading down to the shelter.

She noted that the shelter was overflowing with people who had heeded the warning from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who urgently cut short his visit to Ireland due to the threat of an attack.

In addition, a Russian missile struck an area where foreign diplomats’ residences are located. Although the mission representatives themselves were unharmed, the fire caused by the strike inflicted significant damage to their property and personal belongings.

“Every night in Ukraine is like a game of Russian roulette. We’re not complaining. We are here to do our job, and we will continue to do so. But there’s no denying the psychological toll that living through nights like these takes,” the EU ambassador emphasized.

This is stated in Maternova’s post on her Facebook page.

More than 52,000 people spent the night in the Kyiv metro during the Russian attack

Massive Russian attack on Kyiv: the death toll has risen to 13, with 86 people injured.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on Western partners not to delay decisions on providing Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities following yet another massive Russian attack on Kyiv.

As a result of the massive Russian attack on the night of July 2, public transportation schedules in Kyiv were disrupted. This was caused by damage to the overhead power lines, a power outage, and cleanup efforts following the enemy shelling.
